An Emergency
Yesterday I received a call from Neil around 3:30 p.m. and this is what I heard:
"Jenn, I'm so sorry. I've lost Lu Lu. She got out the front door when I was bringing the kids inside and I didn't realize she was gone. The only thing that made me realize she was gone was when the UPS guy knocked on the door. I've been looking for her for 20 minutes and I can't find her. Somebody picked her up I just know that someone got her." He was completely rambling and I could tell that he was on the verge of tears (as much as a big, strong, tough, guy can be). I immediately asked where the kids were and he told me that Ty was taking a nap and that Mary was in her jumperoo watching a video. Yes, they were alone in the house. I immediately started packing up to go home. As I was leaving the bank I started crying realizing that Lu Lu may not be at home when I get there and I may not be able to feel her by my side when I'm sleeping anymore. Neil and I consider Lu Lu our first born. She is a vital part of our family and we would do ANYTHING to keep her safe. When I got home I sent Neil out one more time to drive around the neighborhood and I stayed home with the kids. HE FOUND HER!!! However, he had a small heart attack before he realized she was okay. As he was driving around the neighborhood he saw a truck parked sideways in the street and a man getting out of the drivers side. He looked over to the shoulder and noticed Lu Lu on her back. He got out of the car asking the man if he had hit her and if she was dead. The man, thinking that Neil was a crazy, emotional person, put his hand up to calm Neil down. Apparently, the man had seen Lu Lu walking and had stopped to pick her up before she got hit. When Lu Lu saw him approaching she rolled over on her back so that he could pet her belly! Neil scooped her up, thanked the man, and brought our baby girl home. Lu Lu's legs are about 1 1/2 inches long and she was clear on the other side of the neighborhood. She was pretty thirsty and tired, but acted as if nothing was wrong and as if she had had a fabulous adventure. She got extra belly rubs from her Dada last night and a few extra treats from me. :)
