T-Ball

Tyrus had his first T-Ball practice last night at 6:15. It amazes me, and makes me a little sad, that he is already playing a sport. It seems like yesterday that I held him for the first time and he was wrapped up all tight and snuggly in one of those hospital blankets. I really can't believe how fast the time has flown by. However, I so look forward to this next adventure in our lives and I think that Tyrus is looking forward to it too! He LOVED practice! We arrived at the field at the same time that Walker and Emma got there. They got to all run up to the field together. The kids were split up into 3 small groups. One group stayed with Coach Mike at home plate and practiced hitting. After that they ran to another station and practiced catching the ball when it was rolled to them. I think the third station was the same thing. I actually can't remember because I was busy watching Mary. It was freezing and it was getting dark so the practice only lasted 45 minutes. The last thing that they did was line all the kids up at home plate and have them run the bases. Tyrus was too busy talking and ended up at the end of the line. I'm guessing he didn't like being at the end and having to wait because at one point he just started running to first base - he just ran past the line of his teammates! Coach Mike immediately put a stop to the entire practice and called Tyrus back to home plate. It was actually a funny moment and all the parents were laughing, but I couldn't help saying "I'm sorry" under my breath. Coach Mike heard me and said, "Are you kidding? I love this! He's excited!" That made me feel better and Tyrus eventually did run the bases. When he was the last to cross home the whole team cheered. It was really sweet. After they all ran they made all the kids gather in a huddle. They put all their little hands in the middle and when Coach Mike counted to three they all yelled "Mustangs!".
When we got in the car I asked Neil what he thought, because he was actually on the field helping, and he said that Tyrus reminds him a lot of Mitchell at that age. We both think that is a very good thing because Mitchell is AWESOME at sports. He also said that everybody on the team, including the parents, definitely know who Tyrus is now. I never thought that my sweet boy would be "that kid" on the team, but I think he's going to be just that - and I love it!
