It Happened

Mary fell off the bed yesterday. I warned her that it was going to happen, but she didn't listen to me and it happened. I had the kids up in our room with the door closed so that I could get dressed. Tyrus immediately climbed up on the bed. Mary, being the adoring baby sister that she is, wanted to do everything that he did. Tyrus, being the "sweet" big brother, got off the bed and pushed the laundry basket, upside down, over to the bed so that Mary could use it to climb up. I wanted to get her off but she was so proud of herself for climbing up that I thought I would stand there for a minute with her and then get her off. While she was running around the bed, laughing and smiling, I was telling her that she had to be careful because if she fell it was going to hurt. The words had just come out of my mouth when she jumped to the other side of the bed, her foot slipped, and down she went. She immediately started screaming and I immediately scooped her up to make sure she was okay. It was nothing that a Popsicle wouldn't cure. I did realize one thing though...big babies fall hard! When I told Mom about it later that day she said that it is a requirement for all babies to fall off the bed. Otherwise they just don't come out right.

I remember the exact moment that Tyrus fell off the bed for the first time. I was so worried and I thought that at any moment he was going to slip into a coma. Nothing like that happened. He fell off, he cried, I cried, he got over it, I worried about it for hours, we both moved on. It took me about 1 minute to get over it with Mary because as soon as I said "Popsicle" she started pushing off of my chest to get down so that she could go to the kitchen. Poor Mary gets the short end of the stick when it comes to sympathy because, more than likely, Tyrus has done it before and we learned that they get over it. Especially with the help of Popsicles.
