Church

The kids and I have been visiting a church on Wednesday nights. There is always an activity going on and Tyrus loves playing with his friends Walker and Dalton. This is the church that Ty will be attending school at next year. I wanted him to get used to going there and get to know all his teachers and classmates. Anyways, after attending just on Wednesday I decided to try out a Sunday. We have now gone two weeks in a row and Ty LOVES it. I must say that I am loving it too. Tyrus is such a silly guy. The Children's Minister says that he is very sweet and he gets really excited over the small things. On Sunday we drop Mary off at the nursery and then Ty goes into "big church" with us for the first few minutes. After a couple of songs and an opening prayer the Children's Minister calls all the kids up to the front for a small service before they leave to go to Children's church. When I was told about what the kids do I thought to myself that Tyrus will never EVER get up in front of all those people that he doesn't know. He proved us WRONG when he went right up there with all the other kids like he had done it a million times before. I was so proud of him. The first Sunday that we went, as he and the other kids were leaving for their service, he ran by me and shouted, "I going to Sunday School Mama!" This Sunday, yesterday, it was the same drill. Tyrus joined me and Neil in big church and then Ms. Elise called all the kids up to the front. This is what the entire church heard...

Ms. Elise: "Welcome boys and girls! I'm so happy to see you all here today. In my hand a have a small cup of water. You could say that it is half full or half empty. It could have any beverage in it...
Ty: "Could it have milk?"
Ms. Elise: "Absolutely. It could have milk..."
Ty: "Lemonade? I like lemonade."
Ms. Elise: "Sure Ty. It could have lemonade..."
Ty: "Coke?"
Ms. Elise: "Uh huh..."
Ty: "and coffee."

Neil and I were cracking up at hearing his little voice up there. Poor Elise kept trying to continue with her lesson and she handled Ty very well. Now the entire church knows about Tyrus and his questions. When church was over and we went to pick Ty up Ms. Elise told us that he was very helpful today and that he stood up front with her and helped her illustrate the lesson to all the other kids.

We are feeling more and more comfortable at church. Each week I feel more and more at home. A lot of that is due to our Sunday School class. Our very good friends, Melissa and Josh, started the class and it is all parents of small children. We all sit around and discuss a Bible verse and how it is present in our lives with our babies. We also share some pretty funny stories about our kids. Most importantly, we support each other and the lessons that we learn in parenthood. I am really enjoying it and learning from it.

Oh Jenn, you just don't know how much it means to us you being at church. It is a calming feeling to see you and Neil in our Sunday school class knowing there is no pressure of being perfect. And to know that you really love going just makes my heart smile. Most of all our kids LOVE going and I love love love hearing Ty talk to Elyse in front of the whole church. I don't tell you this enough but you have two adorable, sweet, and hilarious kiddos that I am just crazy about. God has really blessed me with a true friendship with you and I thank Him for it all the time.
