A Little Scare
Positive She's A Diva
So, our little Mary gave us a little scare the other night. Sharon took the kids to play at McDonald's with Melissa, Walker, and Aden. They were there for several hours and when they came home Sharon put them down for a nap. About an hour later Mary woke up SCREAMING. I ran upstairs and got her out of her crib and just loved on her, but she didn't calm down as quickly as she usually does. Neil and I spent about 45 minutes holding her and walking her around and just trying to calm her down. Finally, she calmed down, but when Neil tried to put her down she wouldn't put any weight on her legs. She would just go limp as soon as her feet touched the floor. So, we put her in her highchair for dinner. After dinner I took her upstairs for a shower and when I tried to put her down she did the same thing. Now, Neil and I are getting pretty worried. We thought that maybe her legs were sore from playing for hours on the playground. So, we decided to put her in the bath and maybe that would help her muscles feel better. While she was in the bath she wouldn't stand up like she usually does and a couple of times almost went underwater completely when she couldn't get her left leg to work. When Neil got her out of the bath her left knee was starting to swell. Now, we are getting close to panic mode.
All of these thoughts were going through my head because of some things that had happened in the previous days. For example, she fell down 4 of our steps a couple days prior to this day. She cried, but got over it really fast so we didn't worry. The next day she ran into a glass wall and got a bloody nose. She cried again, but got over it fast. So, I didn't worry. Now, when she couldn't walk I was thinking that maybe she had hurt herself more than I thought and I was feeling terrible that maybe she had been hurting for 3 days and I didn't know.
Anyways, Neil took her to an after hours emergency clinic. Neil's Dad met him over there to help him out and was a HUGE help to Neil because he had to fill out a bunch of papers for the x-ray. Around midnight we were told that there were no fractures or breaks. She probably just sprained her knee while playing and that the swelling should start to go down soon. We were told to keep her on Motrin and Tylenol for the pain and take her to the doctor in a couple of days if she got worse. The next day she still wouldn't walk, but the swelling was going down.
Here is where the Diva comes in - Yesterday while I was at work Sharon sent me pictures of Mary walking! Yay! I was so happy that she was feeling better. When I got home she was walking and actually walked to me. However, as soon as Sharon left Mary crumpled to the floor and refused to walk for the remainder of the night. She kept her left leg limp and acted like it was really hurting her. She just wanted to be held by her Mama and doted on. I obliged.
The final conclusion is that she got her leg caught on the side of the tunnel slide and it twisted her knee. Hopefully it won't make her scared of playgrounds for the rest of her life. I doubt it.
