ABC's
Tyrus has the new found desire to learn his ABC's. I love it!! Well, let me rephrase that, he has known his "ABC's" for a while now - as in the song. Now, he is interested in learning each letter individually. On Christmas night we were all over at Neil's parents house. I was standing in the kitchen with my nephew Michael and Tyrus walked up to me and pulled on my hand and said, "Mama, I want to learn my letters. Want to help me?" Michael looked at me and said, "Did he just say he wanted to learn his letters? How old is he?"
I am so proud of him. I know for a fact that Andria had a lot to do with this new desire to learn. Before he left there they had started "school" and he would learn a new letter every week. I think they did it for 6 weeks before it was time for us to move. I was terrified that he would only know A-F and never learn the rest. Santa Clause brought both the kids one of those styrofoam mats that is like a puzzle of the alphabet. We like to play a game where I call out a letter and then he jumps on it. There are some letters that he gets 100% of the time and some that we are still working on. For example, he always confuses the letter "E" with the letter "B" even though he knows the letter "B" and gets it right every time.
The letters that he knows 100% are: A, B, C, D, F, G, H, M, O, P, R, T, X, and Y
The other day we were over at Neil's parents house (different time) and I was bragging on him to everyone. I decided to test him in front of everyone.
Me: "Tyrus, what letter does the word Publix start with?"
Ty: "Ummm...P!"
Cheers and hoorays followed
Me: "Great job! What letter does the word Mama start with?"
Ty: "Ummm...M!"
I was so proud of him and he was very proud of himself.
Another new fascination of his is BOOKS!! I'll admit that I never got into the habit of reading to him when he was a baby. However, we are really making up for that now. He loves for me to read to him at night. His favorite books are by Dr. Seuss. Neil and I decided that we are going to start collecting them for him. They are such classic books and he'll be able to save them forever. Neil went out last night and bought him two new books. One was a Dr. Seuss book about ABC's and the other Green Eggs and Ham. I got excited when Neil walked in with that one because I remember having that read to me when I was 5 years old. After the teacher read it we actually made green eggs and green ham. Neil said that everybody that was standing next to him in the check out line was telling him about their own green eggs and ham experience when they saw him buying that book. After we read the book I said, "Tyrus, do you want to make green eggs tomorrow?" He said, "Ummm...no...that would not be good Mama". I went ahead and put the food coloring out on the counter for today. :)
