Santa

Tyrus has been a little stinker when it comes to sleeping in his own bed lately. He fights us to actually go to bed and then he always gets up in the middle of the night and crawls into bed with us. I don't mind him doing this, but I get the feeling that he isn't getting enough sleep because of it. He has been really crabby lately.

So, last night I got an idea. With him being 3 1/2 this holiday season he is really getting into Christmas and all the time is saying, "I want that Mama. I want that Dada". He knows who Santa is and knows that he has to be a good boy in order for Santa to bring him things on Christmas morning. I also need to say that Mary has not been sleeping well. Her poor little teeth are coming in and causing her a lot of pain. Needless to say, Neil and I are tired. Neil probably more so than me. He gets up with her and stays up with her more than I can. Anyways, last night we were desperate. We were all sitting and playing in Ty's room and I snuck downstairs and called my brother "Uncle Bryan". He wasn't doing anything so I asked him he could call me back in 30 seconds and pretend that he was Santa and tell Tyrus that he needs to sleep in his own bed. He was totally up to doing it. He asked me, "How over the top can I get?" I told him to go all out and really try to convince Tyrus that he was Santa.

So, I go back upstairs and am sitting in the floor and my cell phone rings. I look down and say, "Tyrus, guess who it is? It's Santa calling you!" Tyrus answers the phone and says, "Hey Santa!" Then my sweet brother went all out...

Uncle Bryan: "Ho Ho Ho Tyrus! This is Santa Clause! Have you been a good boy?"
Tyrus: "Uh huh. Santa you bring me toys for Christmas?"
Uncle Bryan: "Well, you have to be a good boy for that. Me and Mrs. Clause are up here in the North Pole and we are watching for all the good little boys and we are working really hard to make some great toys for them."
Tyrus: "A Firetruck tent?"
Uncle Bryan: "Well, if you want a Firetruck tent you have to sleep in your bed tonight and every night until Christmas. Only big boys get Firetruck tents and big boys sleep in their own bed all night. Can you do that?"
Tyrus: "Uh huh. Love you Santa. Bye Bye. Have a good night." Then he kisses the phone and gives it back to me.

My brother did a great job. He even made his voice sound really deep. I think he enjoyed it. So, did it work? Well, Tyrus went to sleep willingly in his own bed. However, I woke up in the middle of the night once again squished between he and Neil on the bed. Sigh. Maybe Santa will call again soon.

Just wait until Mary gets old enough to get in your bed too!! Joel sleeps with the kids and I sleep in the guest room! I say from experience, break the habit now!! Otherwise you will find that one spouse sleeps with kids and one alone, unless you can all sleep in one bed

Love you and feel your paid!

both my kids too sneak into our bed in the middle of the night. It's crazy.... but just remember one day you will wish they would be home to do that.
