Sick, Sick, Sick, and Sick...
It has been a VERY busy week! We have all had our own bouts with sickness, if you can't tell by the title of this post. I guess I'll start with Ty.
On Monday Ty went to the doctor to have his teeth worked on. He did extremely well and the dentist said that it wasn't as bad as she thought. He was very "out of it" afterwards from the sedation medicine. One thing that Dr. Margaret told me was to watch him chewing on his gums because they were very numb and he wouldn't be able to tell if it was hurting. Sure enough, on our way to Andria's house, I looked over my shoulder and Tyrus looked like a vampire with two streams of blood running down his chin. When we got to Andria's I cleaned him up, but I couldn't tell how bad it was. I hated to drop him off, but I knew that Andria would take good care of him. She said that once he woke up from his nap that he was bouncing off the walls. Later that night when he was eating he told me that his mouth was hurting. I just assumed it was his teeth and didn't worry to much about it.
On Tuesday morning Mary woke up with a really bad cough. She actually had it for a couple of days before Tuesday morning, but Tuesday morning it sounded really bad and my instincts were screaming at me that something was wrong. I decided to take her to the pediatrician. I was worried because we didn't have an appointment and I thought I was going to be there all day. We were the fist patient there and they told me it wouldn't be a problem getting her in (YAY!). While we were waiting in the waiting room Mary LOST IT!!! She was screaming at the top of her lungs! I was trying everything. I walked her, I held her, I tried to feed her, but I didn't have any warm water and she was not having that. All the nurses kept coming out to check on her. I guess it sounded like I was killing her. They all took their turn trying to calm her, but she kept coming back to me. It really broke my heart. When we got back to the room the doctor came in right away and told me that Mary had TWO severe ear infections. Any mother knows how inadequate you feel when your baby is sick. Mary never ran a temperature so I had no way of knowing how bad it was. I'm thankful that she developed the cough because I wouldn't have known otherwise.
On Tuesday night Neil called me on the way home and told me that his temperature was 102. So, I called the doctor and made him an appointment. I got home with the kids and he left for the doctor. He called me on his way home and this was our conversation:
Neil: "They tested me for Strep and the test was positive before they even took it out of my mouth."
Me: "Oh really? What did they do about it?"
Neil: "Oh, they gave me the biggest most painful shot they could give me. The same shot that just last week they gave to a man twice my size and made him cry out like a baby."
AND, by the way, the doctor said that there is no way you aren't gonna get it and you're gonna have to have the shot too - ha ha ha"
I explained to him that I was not going to get that shot and that I would rather be sick. I also told him that while he was gone I got a look at Ty's tongue and it looked like it was going to fall off. Apparently, when I saw blood it wasn't coming from his gum it was coming from his tongue. I called Dr. Margaret and she explained that when mouth tissue "dies" it turns very white. That is exactly what Ty's tongue looked like where he had bit it. She also said that it takes two days for it look like that. That's why I couldn't tell how bad it was on Monday. Obviously, his tongue is red like the rest of his mouth and nothing stands out. I think she could tell that I was a little scared so she prescribed some medicine to make sure it wasn't infected.
So, as of Tuesday evening, I have a sick Mary who is on antibiotics. A sick Tyrus who is on antibiotics. And a sick Neil. I called the Pediatrician the next morning to tell them about Neil and they said that the medicine that Mary was on for her ears was the same medicine they would put her on if she had Strep. They assured me that she was fine. They also said that it was good that Ty was on medicine too.
So, today is Monday, Memorial Day, and I feel like CRAP!! Of course, my body decides to get sick when every doctor office is closed. Neil has been great that last 15 hours with the kids. However, he does love to throw that threat of the monstrous shot our every now and then. I'm going to the doctor in the morning and I will refuse to get the shot. I am scared to death of them. The funny thing is that I can get a needle stuck in my back, but I can't get a shot in my butt.
Anyways, the purpose of this post is to explain why we have no pictures this week. Its been a little crazy around here, but 3 our of 4 of us are doing much better and I plan on catching up on pictures soon. It drives me crazy not to update weekly.
