Chalk
I really wasn't going to post anything about this, but after speaking with my sister today I'm not so embarrassed anymore. My name is Jennifer and I'm a chalk craver! Yep, you read that right, I have been craving chalk. For the longest time I told myself that it would be CRAZY to eat chalk while I was pregnant, or ever, but one day I was at Wal-Mart and I saw a pack of chalk for .65 cents. I thought, "what the heck"? Anyways, I read EVERY SINGLE word on that box to make sure that it wasn't poisonous and then I realized that it couldn't be because a kid could eat it. I can't believe that I'm saying this, but I took a bite and it was so satisfying! I promise I only took one bite. I think it was mostly curiosity. After I spoke to Shanna today I found out that she is craving it too. Is it a girl thing? When she told me she was craving it I couldn't believe it. Apparently, chalk contains calcium and it could be a way of our bodies telling us to get more calcium in our diet. Hmmmmm, milk or chalk? Thats a tough one!

I can't say I craved chalk. I couldn't eat or crave anything, but I LOVED the smell of gasoline. I couldn't stand to be around coffee, but couldn't leave the Quicktrip. Between the "chewy" ice and the gas pumps, it was a pregnant woman's dream. LOL
Jenn, I think it may have something to do with Iron, not calcium. My midwife said calcium, but she may not know what she's talking about! The internet says Iron... I'm going to ask them about it tomorrow and will let you know. (I also love the smell of gasline!)

I've heard of this before although I didn't have the craving myself. It's called Pica and a lot of pregnant women experience it. It may be some sort of mineral deficiency... just don't start eating dirt or you'll be in a whole world of trouble. Yuck!
